Whilst just studying a bee feeding on a wild flower by looking through my camera's lens; suddenly this happened. It made me jump! Having been hiding the other side of the flowerhead, the crab spider leaped out to catch the poor bee. The first few photos I took of the scene were blurred until I managed to regain my composure.
Top finisher in the 'Insects on Flowers' contest.
Along the way. I'm a UK-based artist and designer. Most of my output these days is photography- and computer-based; many images having been developed digitally to bring them to point where they are more than just a record of light passing through a lens. I'm still learning from my mistakes, as well as by examining the work of other artist's that I admire. For the last three decades or more, I've worked from home in a small riverside village, close to an abundance of countryside thick with woods and great walks to share with my dog. Creating imagery is a strong passion; something that gets me up in the morning when the sun breaks up the night, and later, something that keeps me up until the early morning hours, when I just can't leave...

Amazing image! What an incredible little spider! It is so hard being a bee. Sympathies and regards! L/F

Very unusual - that white against the darker tones of the flower and bee. And a great story - both in your narrative and in the image itself. Congratulations on the tie for 3rd place in the Flowers with Insects contest.
David Davies replied:
Thank you Nikolyn for you very thoughtful comments -- really appreciated!

It's life--eat or be eaten. I think it's a great catch--not very many people see an incident such as this and you were blessed to have a camera to capture the whole thing. Interesting spider--interesting color. Thanks for sharing.
David Davies replied:
Thank you Mary for your kind and thoughtful comments -- I was blessed as well as shocked, and not a little lucky to have been able to get some images in focus!

Great image and WoW on the surprise nature delivered that day! Beautiful capture! (well of the spider, sad circle of life for the bee;)
David Davies replied:
Thank you for your kind comments. I entered this in a competition (probably where you came upon it) but the administrator removed it. Possibly too real for some tastes! Hey Ho!
